Melbourne Cup on the agenda for Simenon
Simenon has place himself in the picture for the Melbourne Cup with his two victories at Royal Ascot.
Trainer Willie Mullins said the Goodwood Cup could be his following race with a trip to Australia among the possibilities.
“The Melbourne Cup is at the back of our minds,” Mullins stated.
“I believe we have a substantial adequate rating now but we’d have to qualify by both winning a Listed race or becoming positioned in a Group race I think, although I’d have to check the circumstances.
“I consider we’re aiming towards the Goodwood Cup at this stage.”
The five-year-old gave the Irish champion Nationwide Hunt trainer his initial Royal Ascot victory when he claimed Tuesday’s two-and-a-half-mile (4000m) Ascot Stakes and was even more extraordinary 4 days later in the Queen Alexandra Stakes.
“He was quite remarkable and he seems a good stayer,” Mullins told At The Races.
“He was dropped by the handicapper, so he is just going back up to in which he was.
“I’d say with his age and maturity he’s just finding a bit more powerful I believe.
